Let me just start out by saying I’m a big fan of Lifelike. His remixes always tend to capture a feeling not evoked by the original song. His songs take you on a journey, building slowly, being predictable in the best places and building anticipation for his signature drops: clean and dripping with emotion. Lifelike picks apart the original vocals and molds them into a creation all his own, aided by his trademark mellow synths and soft drums. This is a bit of a departure from what you may be used to seeing on this blog: a sort of funky electro-house that is a bit mellower than most of the tracks posted on the blog.
Lifelike’s remix of The Plastiscines’ “Barcelona” has already been blogged about the world over. I think the reason this remix has already garnered so much attention is because Lifelike takes a mediocre song and transforms it into something incredible, into his own story. This four-minute gem is almost like a waking dream and, if you’re like me, once its over you’ll be hitting the replay button immediately. You can anticipate the drop coming, and rather than detract from the song it makes the drop that much more satisfying. I’d compare it to placing the last piece in a jigsaw puzzle. You know exactly where the piece goes, but the true satisfaction comes not from solving where the piece should go, but from completing the whole. Lifelike “completes the whole” in this remix:
