Could we see a mashup of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” and E-40’s “Just Fuckin’” at some point in the future? You could call it, “Never Gonna Give Up Fucking You”.

02.10.10

Hey… not sure if you’ve “Mixed In Key” before.. but you should check it out… it’s a good program.

02.10.10

02.10.10

these are ill… download links?

WTF!!!!!!!! Are you serious, THESE SUCK!!!!!!!!!! That telepop “mashup” is just the original track with a kid cudi acapella over it…it’s not even in a matching KEY! Even by Mashup standards you’re a hack…Have fun playing ‘dj’ to all the fucked up frat bro’s and tinas who don’t know dick about music production/dj’ing. I dare you to post that trash on the lowdown where there are people who actually know what they’re talking about can tell you what you need to hear. Do something creative, stop taking copyrighted songs and just laying over acapellas…awfully i might add, you’re taking other peoples hard work and trying to make a name for yourself….Oh and read the fucking manual for what ever program you’re using, because you can’t mix for shit.

And btw, a Mashup isn’t just taking a track and laying an acapella over it….

02.10.10

REAL DJ PRODUCER I HAVE SOME WORDS TO SAY TO YOU IF UO THINK THESE MIXES ARE SO TERRIBLE WHY DON’T YOU GO MAKE A STUPID ACAPELLA URSELF. IF YOUR SUCH A MUSIC PRODUCER SHOW US AND WILL LISTEN TO UR F’D UP MUSIC.

02.10.10

BTW THESE MIXES ARE AWESOME!

02.10.10

Why is Miley Cyorus deleted?????!!!

02.10.10

Haha I hope I wasn’t confused for A Real DJ/ Producer… Have to say I agree with some peeps on both sides, but the early 2000s are done. There are enough royalty free samples out there that making some original music should be about as stress free as some of these mash ups. But I am going to have to keep reppin

No
More
Mash
Ups
Please-

Then again there is a mash stash, and some kids seem to enjoy it. So if there is a market someone has to make em. People get stressed out when other “producers” generate fame quickly based on making a mashup because there isn’t much originality or technical merit. If you are producing original tracks… then you are on the right track keep on it. Don’t stress about kids generating publicity for their mash ups. Girltalk and others show it all leads to a dead end anyway.

Mashups are simply a way for people to somewhat create music who want to but dont yet have the background… give them time. They are still doing it for the love of music even though many of us dislike it. Can’t hate on passion for music now…

02.10.10

to A Real DJ/Producer

So where are your mixes, oh master of DJ? Yeah, these are mash ups, which are ‘less technical’ than a from scratch produced track. But they are STILL FUN TO LISTEN TO.
Secondly, I don’t see a problem with the key. I do not produce, and I will not pretend that I do. However, from a listeners standpoint (you know, the audience…) these tracks are not bad at all. After you said that, I listened to the track again and discovered something: RAP HAS NO KEY. They are basically talking over the song.

Finally, I am a ‘frat bro’ and I guarantee that if you are playing in real clubs, and not some stuck up coffee shop no one has ever heard of, a portion of your audience will be too. Stop being so conceded. I would wager that you are one of those stuck up, “music is art” dickweeds that are constantly trying to make a name for themselves while simultaneously hating on whatever is popular simply because it is doing better than whatever piss poor attempt at creating music you have tried.

02.10.10

So about the links?

02.10.10

Probono- Lovin the pretty lights mash up.

I’d like to point out that nowhere does it say that these dj’s who are making these mash-ups claim they produced this music. Making mash up’s is a different type of creativity than producing, the idea of recycling old music and putting your own twist on it is a cool concept. People need to understand that when a DJ releases a mash up, this is a display of one’s understanding of music and their creativity of crossing different music genres into one. This is the same concept as a DJ who blends two tracks while playing live- the music is not produced by that DJ but it still showcases a DJ’s skill. I’d also like to point out that yes; rap has key’s just the same as any other type of music. These so-called “producers” need to respect what other people are doing- mash up’s are still around because people listen to them. So all you “producers” out there on your high horse- either respect the music form or just shut up and don’t listen to them. People don’t want to hear your bitchin’.

02.10.10

Hahaha the telepop “mashup” totally doesnt go together. Kid cudi is rapping/singing in a different key than what the girl is singing in. This just proves that the people making mash-ups arent musical at all… zZzZzzzzz

02.10.10

Well said,

There is just a larege portion of people who don’t even want to see mash ups “released.” It can create a cool vibe when done live and can be quite intriguing.

However when pre-made, yes it may be an individual twist on the song… but for the most part people are searching through keys of old songs and newer electronic songs or hip hop beats and putting them on.

I think it is really cool what Frequent-C and some of those guys do. They make original music and use some common vocal samples. That is a completely different concept.

To make some quality music I belong to the school of train that believes that original production mixed with sampling of some form can be the only real way to put and “individual twist” on a track.

Otherwise it is just two or more pieces of work which happened to work well together because of matching keys, musical structure, placement, or luck.

Make more original music, use all the samples you want. But make sure you have something that you can credibly call your own. Be an artist…

02.10.10

I hadn’t listened to these three mash ups. And although I can never knock anyone for being passionate about music, I am going to have to say that I hope nothing like these three tracks ever come across this blog again.

They simply don’t work. at all. Sorry

02.10.10

Links? Please. And to the fucking “producer” above. When you make a track that I enjoy listening to post it up… Until then I’ll be jammin to Hath.

02.10.10

wow… haters huh… first off i made these on a simple two channel mixer connected to scratch live and no turntables. i did all the cue point drops by hand, live, and adjust the pitch on the computer… so it wasn’t easy to make perfect… i don’t make these to glorify myself by any means either or use them to make any money… all this is, is me sitting in room fucking around with some music that i really like… i don’t see what the big deal is. If you like em, great! if not, then don’t get all high and mighty. I DJ because i have an extreme love for music, simple and plain. So thanks to all the good compliments. Also I am not a professional by any means yet. I do DJ and get paid, but i do it because its fun to me and i am getting better everyday. but like anyone I am still learning. These tracks are me just doing more than just mixing tracks and getting more creative and having fun. again thanks to a-dubs and the others for the good feedback.

P.S. A lot of people have told me that the Cudi one sounds off key. i agree it is off key. but at the time it sounded sick to me so i recorded it…. and also hath is missing my wu-tang one on here which you can stream and download on my soundcloud here: http://soundcloud.com/djprobono

02.10.10

*edit*

i meant… “hath is missing my bone thugs one on here… “

02.10.10

oh and also i take back what i said about thanking a-dubs for the good critisicm…

A-Dubs: “I hadn’t listened to these three mash ups. And although I can never knock anyone for being passionate about music, I am going to have to say that I hope nothing like these three tracks ever come across this blog again. They simply don’t work. at all. Sorry.”

… explain to my why it is so important for these tracks to “work”…i don’t make these to be perfect… like i said before i am no professional with this shit, it is just something i do for fun. i JUST started creating mashups. I do not produce. and i have never written music. but I do DJ. so obviously they arnt gonna be amazing. if they don’t work then gimme some feeback. what can i do to improve them. fuckin haterrrss…

02.10.10

PLEASE PUT “SEASONS OF BIGGIE” ON MEDIAFIRE!!!!

02.10.10

Sure I can do that for you. I am not hating, just being honest from a musical perspective.

I don’t want to knock anyone that is passionate about music so please don’t take anything too personally. It is all a learning process.

You have made it clear that you are a DJ, and not yet a producer. Very fine and well! DJing is a great way to experience, share, and enjoy music. However, your “mash ups” like you said, were in DJ form. You did them in Serato, which means that for the most part, you had the acapella playing at the same time as the beat. Although I don’t enjoy mash ups very much- if you would like to “put your own twist” on music via mash ups, then you need to just that and put your own twist on it.

Cut up the vocals, put them in unique positions in the track so the arrangement is unique. Maybe loop certain parts of the track with a part of the chorus that you like that wasn’t done in the original. By layering an acapella and a beat in their original form, then you are yes DJing. Please don’t think that you can’t do this, but save that sort of stuff for the live DJing. Just because something was fun live, does not mean that it is something that can be listened to while on a walk with your headphones or driving in the car.

Like everyone has said, Key signatures are very important for music, especially for match ups. Make sure the keys work together, or if they do not, adjust the volume and EQ as much as possible or give it FX to make something cool out of it.

Just because those first tracks you posted didn’t work out well, don’t get put down. Everyone butchers stuff here and there, especially in the beginning. You are on the entry path to a long road of musical endeavors. Take all criticism in stride, even that of the haters. In the long run haters are good!!

For example, although the music in the post was not up to quality of this website… Have you ever seen 26 comments on a post? Keep working.

02.10.10

thanks for the feedback Dubs.

02.10.10

This track is a huge fail. Totally killed kid cudi in this one it deserves a better beat to at least match the acapella. Mashups are straight if you can actually pull em off and not just layer acapellas over shitty songs. And yes nearly all the mashups off hathbang are fails. Don’t post your mashups unless its somewhat of a decent track im tired of hearing people using all the same acapellas as everyone else it all sounds the same.

02.10.10

great mash ups idk what everyone else is talking about but i really liked them

02.10.10

Fuck all tha haters. and thanks to all the good comments.

and big thanks to a-dub for the constructive criticism.
